The revesible gearmotor

The dictionary gives the word reversible the following description: “that can be changed so that something returns to its original state or situation”.

Despite this, the dictionary goes beyond the generic definition and describes the meaning in the mechanical field too. "mechanism in which the transmission of motion can occur from the motor to the gears and vice versa".

In other words, a gearmotor used on swing gates, sliding gates, barriers or any other application it might has, can be operated manually regardless of the presence of current (voltage) or not. Unlike an irreversible gearmotor that cannot be operated manually, if not by unlocking it.

The reason of existence for a reversible gearmotor is to satisfy all those fields where flow continuity is essential even in the event of a blackout.
Just think of hospitals, parking lots, apartment buildings, public areas, campsites or rescuers such as firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Basically, where getting stuck inside or outside could be a big problem.
So, in the event of a blackout, you simply push the gate leaf, lift the barrier boom or pull the sliding gate to free the access.

At this point, a doubt arises: "If a reversible gearmotor can always be operated manually, both with and without current, what prevents someone with malicious intent from simply opening an automation and entering a property?"

The simplest answer is no one. It is for this reason that the manufacturers of gearmotors for gates, in their reversible option, install mechanical blocks that prevent the gearmotors from rotating freely if operated manually, except for a power failure where any locks are removed automatically.

Roger Technology has also introduced reversible solutions with mechanical locks. But since the advent of our brushless digital solutions, we have developed what we like to call a “digital block”. Thanks to our technology, in presence of voltage, we can determine if the automation is actuated manually. This activates the digital lock, which orders the motor to use all the available torque to oppose to the opening, thus keeping the access blocked and everything beyond it safe
